You will need to gather a few items to create this project.

  • Washable tempera paint (or tempera paint sticks)
  • Dish soap
  • Green painter’s tape
  • Paint brushes
  • Disposable cups

Step 1: Wash and dry your inside window so that it is free of dust, dirt and oil.

Step 2: Tape anywhere (ledges etc.) you do not want paint to end up. Put something on the floor too to make clean up easier.

Step 3: Put a few drops of dish soap into a cup and add about ¼ cup of paint. Mix well.

Step 4:

  1. Apply tape to window, to create the outlines of your winter image. You will paint within the tape lines to create a stained glass look.
  2. If you enjoy painting free hand, allow the paint to flow with your creative juices

Tip: Think about layering your paint. For a snowman you would do the face, buttons, scarf etc. first, let it dry then paint the snow balls (body) as your next layer.

Step 5: Let dry.

Step 6: Remove tape and Enjoy

Tips and Tricks:

  • If you want darker colors do a second coat once first layer is dry.
  • Be aware of how the edges of your tape meet. Cut tape to make smooth lines, or the angles you want to achieve.
  • PUSH tape onto the window so that the paint does not seep, if it does a damp paper towel will take off any bleeding once tape is removed.
  • If writing words, think about which way you want them to be read, from the inside or outside!
  • Clean up spills right away with soap, water and paper towel.
  • Don’t leave your art on your windows too long, when it is time to take it off use soap, water and elbow grease.
