12 Days of Christmas - Day 8

Build A Bird Feeder

Share:

We have settled into our cold, snowy winter days with our favorite treats to keep us warm. Let’s spend today focusing on feeding the birds in our back yard their favorites too. Watching birds can be a great past time and something that you can spend time experimenting with.

For this simple craft you will need:

  • Peanut butter (or tenderflake/crisco )
  • Pinecone / toilet/paper towel roll
  • String
  • Bird seed

Step 1- Attach a string to the pinecone or through the center of the toilet roll.

Step 2- Cover the item in peanut butter (or alternative)

Step 3- Pour bird feed into a bowl or tray.

Step 4 - Roll your pinecone or cardboard roll in bird feed

Step 5- Hang in nearby trees and watch for the birds to come around.

Explore making your own bird feed, you can use peanuts, plump raisins, apples, sliced citrus fruit, black oil sunflower seeds, cracked corn and seed mix’s. Put in a dish or lace on a string and place where the birds gather.

If you want to share bird feeders with friends, this website has a wonderful recipe and project. I have made these and hung them in the tree's and they never last long :)
