the DLC's Gay-Straight-Alliance group
WELCOME! to the DLC Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA)
Whether you are a member of the Queer community or an ally of the community, we welcome you to join our GSA Group. As a respectful member of this Group, we kindly ask you to familiarize yourself with the below information:
WHAT IS A GSA? – Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) clubs play a critical role in helping make schools safer and more accepting for Queer youth and allies. Inclusive GSAs are part of a larger movement for social justice, and GSA activism can be the first step of many to making your school and the world a better, safer, and more accepting place. Individuals in the Queer community come from all segments of society, representing the spectrum of human diversity.
WHY WE’RE HERE – This GSA group has been created as a non-judgemental safe space to build community through education, resources, support, special events, social action, and advocacy, and to foster friendships through respectful dialogue. As a Group, we aim to work towards creating a welcoming, compassionate, and respectful space for Queer peoples and allies, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, culture, size, and abilities.
This Group follows the typical school calendar and is open to full-time DLC students from September to June of each year. You will find both fellow students, as well as staff in this Group. As staff, we are here to support you, answer questions, and provide meaningful experiences.
