Kindergarten to Grade 9 took part our first Learning Camp
On September 28th, DLC students from Kindergarten to Grade 9 took part our first Learning Camp of the year to honour and learn more about Indigenous culture & Truth and Reconciliation.
Special guests Sun West Knowledge Keeper, Marcella Bird and Indigenous Perspectives Consultant, Liz Zdunich joined DLC teachers and students. An interactive storywalk helped students learn about connecting to land and family roots.
Students learned about cultural teachings like patience, positivity and humility when creating art before adding to a beadwork style dot painting. We ended the day with traditional cooperative games, a talking circle, and by cherishing new friendships as we parted ways. Friday, September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
